Disc One includes orchestrations for Piano and Performance; Disc Two includes orchestrations for Technic. The student piano parts are heard on the right channel of the orchestrations. Background accompaniment instruments are heard on the left channel. On many sound systems, balance between the right and left channels may be changed, allowing isolation of either the student part or accompaniment instruments, or modification of the blend between the two. Each piece starts with a two-measure introduction, after which the student part begins. the student part is usually played by one or more instruments with sounds other than those of a piano. In this way, when playing along with the orchestrations, the students hears the demonstration of his or her part more clearly and has a more interesting musical experience.
